This legislation requires all trustees of public retirement systems to receive eight hours of training developed or certified by the Georgia Public Retirement System Trustee Training Council. The Council will develop an eight hour training course for trustees that includes laws applicable to public retirement systems, fiduciary duties and responsibilities, ethics, administration of a public pension plan, investment, portfolio makeup, basic accounting and actuarial services, open meetings law open records law. Any other training program for trustee training must be certified by the Council. The Council is made up of the state auditor, the director of the Employee Retirement System, the director of the Teachers Retirement System, an individual appointed by the GMA Municipal Employee Benefit System, and two representatives of appointed by the boards of the public retirement funds with the most assets as certified by the state auditor.
