Senator Jaime Scott represents District 12, which includes parts of Pulaski
County on both the south and north sides of the Arkansas River. She was
elected to the Senate in November 2024 and took the oath of office on the first
day of the 2025 session.
She is the Senate vice-chair of the Joint Performance Review Committee and a
member of the Senate Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Development
Committee. She also serves on the Senate Transportation, Technology and
Legislative Affairs Committee and the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee.
Senator Scott was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and served
three terms. She is the youngest African-American female to be elected to the
Arkansas State Legislature.
Senator Scott graduated from Arkansas State University with a B.A. in
criminology and sociology and an M.A. in Criminal Justice. She is a graduate of
the Harvard School of Government Executive Education Program.
She is the Executive Director of Youth Services for Pulaski County.
During the 94th General Assembly, she sponsored the "Creating a Respectful and
Open World for Natural Hair (Crown) Act." Act 514 of 2023 prevents
discrimination based on hair styles in public schools and state colleges and
universities. She also sponsored Act 29 of 2023, which created Lupus
Awareness Day (April 23rd). In the 2021 session she sponsored Act 622 to
improve safety in schools by requiring resource officers to undergo specialized
training through local police departments.
Senator Scott has been recognized by the Democratic Party of Arkansas as a
2017 Emerging Leader. She also has received the COGIC 20 under 40
Achievers Award, Citizen of the Year, the Bishop DL Lindsey Spirit of Excellence
Community Award, William H. Bowen School of Law GLO Award, Women of
Excellence in Education Award and a 2018 Leadership Community Award.
Senator Scott is Vice-Chair of Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus, and Executive
Committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) as the
Regional Chair for Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
Senator Scott lives in North Little Rock and is a member of the Church of God in
Christ. |
