Bio

Since 2014, Jim Wood has provided leadership on the key issues impacting regular working people in the California State Assembly. As Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, Jim has provided tangible solutions for a healthcare system that needs reform by tackling issues like affordability, workforce development, rural access, and nursing homes oversight. As a Member of the Assembly Natural Resources Committee, Jim has been vocal on wildfire prevention and preparedness. He has lobbied relentlessly to protect lives, property, and our precious public lands by pursuing steps year round that mitigate the growing threat of wildfire. And building on over 7 years of advocacy, Jim continues to demand an end to the 'digital divide' throughout rural California. Whether it is access to education, the marketplace, or health services, basic human services and resources are increasingly online, and Jim continues to insist that unserved populations must gain access to crucial broadband services first. North Coast First It has always been my philosophy that if policies, legislation, and resources are good for our district they will be good for all of California. As such Jim always focuses on the needs of those in our district first! Fighting for Patients and Consumers Whether it is protecting us from "surprise medical bills" reigning in profiteering drug companies, or ensuring affordable healthcare access for all, Jim puts patients before profits. Climate Change The area Jim has had the pleasure of representing since 2014 is one of the largest and most geographically diverse districts in our state. As a result, we must play an outsized role in this global climate crisis and innovative approaches such as investing in green energy like wind are already in motion. The North Coast communities have always been leaders in clean energy and Jim continues to further that legacy as we respond to the most urgent problem facing future generations. A Tradition of Public Service As a member of a national emergency response team, Jim aided human identification operations following 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. More recently, Jim supported local and state authorities with disaster identification efforts in Lake, Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma Counties as wildfires and tragedy struck closer to home. In 2018, Jim went on to lead dental identification operations in Butte County following the catastrophic Camp Fire.
