Senator Mike McGuire is a third generation Northern Californian whose family farmed prunes and grapes in the Alexander Valley for nearly a half century. Raised by his mom and grandmother, Mike worked his way through high school and college and enjoyed a career in the radio and television industries.
He is unique among his colleagues in that he has served in four separate offices in California. At age 19, he was elected to the Healdsburg School Board, then to the Healdsburg City Council, and then to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.
In December of 2014, Mike was sworn into the State Senate where he represents the Second District, stretching from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon Border. His district includes Del Norte, Trinity, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma and Marin counties. He was easily reelected in 2018.
Mike currently serves as the Senate's Assistant Majority Leader and is chair of both the Senate Governance & Finance Committee and the Select Committee on California's Wine Industry. He also sits on the Budget Committee, as well as the Transportation, Housing, Energy, and Education Committees.
He lives in Healdsburg with his wife Erika, an elementary school principal, his pug Gertrude and his chickens. |
