Johnson earned an Associate's degree from Santa Fe College between 1988 and 1991, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida, where he studied from 1991 to 1993. Born on November 9, 1970, in Gainesville, he is a Christian and has a strong interest in cowboy culture, hunting, and watersports.
Johnson was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2024.
