Jim Boyd was elected to the Florida Senate in 2020 and has been reelected subsequently. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018. His public service also includes time on the Palmetto City Council from 1988 to 1991 and as a Commissioner for the North River Fire District.
Boyd works in insurance and investments. He is married to Sandra Woodard of Palmetto, Florida, and they have two children, Ansley and Austin, as well as a grandchild, Houston. He earned a B.S. from Florida State University in 1978.
His family has a history of legislative service, with his grandfather, Hugh Boyd, serving in the Florida House of Representatives in 1941, and his uncle, Wilbur H. Boyd, serving in the House from 1959 to 1966 before moving to the Florida Senate, where he served from 1966 to 1972 and held the position of President Pro Tempore from 1970 to 1972.
A Baptist, Boyd enjoys golf and quail hunting in his free time. |
