Bio

Matt Gurtler was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2016. He represents the citizens of District 8, which includes portions of Rabun, Towns, Union, and White counties. Matt was raised in Rabun County, Georgia alongside his 4 siblings, and loves calling the Northeast Georgia Mountains home. Matt attended the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Georgia where he participated in R.O.T.C. and received his B.A. in history with a minor in sociology. After graduating from UNG in 2012, Matt began working as a Legislative Aide for State Representative Stephen Allison during the 40 day Georgia General Assembly session. Matt has been a member of the Republican Party since 2007 and has participated in multiple County, District, and State conventions and has volunteered in campaigns on the Federal, State, and Local levels. Matt is also a National Rifle Association certified firearms instructor and an avid outdoorsman, who enjoys target shooting, hiking, and traveling.
