Representative Charles E. "Chuck" Martin has served in the Georgia House of
Representatives since 2003. He represents the House District 49, which covers Alpharetta,
Roswell, Johns Creek and Greater North Fulton County.
Currently, Rep. Martin serves as the chairman to the Higher Education Committee. He also
serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, Creative Arts &
Entertainment, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Regulated Industries, Retirement,
Rules and Ways & Means committees. Additionally, he serves on the House Working Group
for Creative Arts & Entertainment. In previous sessions, Rep. Martin served as the vice
chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and chairman of the
Budget & Fiscal Affairs Committee.
In August of 2010, Rep. Martin was elected chairman of Energy and Environment of the
Southern Legislative Conference by his fellow legislators from across the Southern United
States.
Following the 2007 legislative session, Rep. Martin was named by the Georgia Chamber of
Commerce and separately by the Technology Association of Georgia as "2007 Legislator of
the Year." He was also recognized for legislative leadership by the Association of County
Commissioners of Georgia.
After the 2008 legislative session, he was recognized by the Georgia Association of Fire
Chiefs and the Georgia State Firefighters Association as "2008 Legislator of the Year."
Upon the conclusion of the 2010 Session, Rep. Martin was named by Technology
Association of Georgia as "2010 Legislator of the Year." Additionally, Assisted Living
Federation of America (ALFA) recognized him with their first ever "Statesman Award"
given nationally, for his dedication to seniors across America. Georgia ALFA also named
Rep. Martin "2010 Legislator of the Year" for his specific work advocating for seniors'
rights in the state.
Prior to his legislative service, Rep. Martin served the people from House District 49 in
many other capacities. From 1993 to 1995, he was a member of the Alpharetta City Council.
The following year, he was elected as Alpharetta's mayor, and held that position until 2002
when his membership in the Georgia General Assembly began.
He is a 1996 graduate of the Regional Leadership Institute, as well as a member of the
Regional Leadership Foundation, the Alpharetta Optimist Club and Lions Club. In addition,
Representative Martin served as president of the Milton Touchdown Club from 2003
to2004.
Rep. Martin was born and raised in Alpharetta and graduated from Milton High School. He
attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a B.B.A. in management science in
1983. He then pursued a career in information technology and real estate consulting. Rep.
Martin is currently a director with Ryan, LLC.
Rep. Martin and his wife, Johnna, have two adult sons, Miles and Lance, who both
graduated from the University of Georgia. Martin took an active involvement in their
childhood and enjoys coaching youth activities such as baseball, football, basketball and
golf. Miles is a career educator and coaching currently working in the Hall County School
System. Lance, a director with ALDI, and his wife, Mary Beth (Brown), live in North
Carolina with their twins, a boy and a girl. The Martins are members of Macedonia Baptist
Church in Canton. |
