Bio

Deborah Silcox is an attorney, mother and community activist. She grew up in Sandy Springs and graduated from Riverwood High School. She subsequently earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and went on to finish her law degree from Emory University School of Law. Deborah practiced law for 10 years and gave up partnership to raise her family. During this time, she served on the boards of the Junior League of Atlanta, Atlanta Speech School, Hands on Georgia and the Chastain Park Conservancy. She was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to serve on the Department of Human Resources Board as well as the Governor's Commission for Volunteerism and Service. Governor Nathan Deal chose Deborah as chairman of the Governor's Commission for Volunteerism and Service. For over 28 years, Deborah has been married to Dr. Hal Silcox III. Deborah and Hal have two grown children, Elizabeth and Hal IV. Elected in 2016, Deborah currently serves as the state representative for House District 52. While in office, she was named "Legislator of the Year" in 2017 by the Georgia Ophthalmology Society and earned a Health Policy Certificate from Georgia State Health Policy Center. For her work during the 2018 legislative session, Deborah was named "Champion of Georgia's Cities" by the Georgia Municipal Association. In 2019, Speaker David Ralston appointed Deborah chairman of the House MARTOC Committee that oversees MARTA, as well as a Deputy Whip for the Majority Caucus. She also serves on the Judiciary, Health and Human Services, Judiciary Non-Civil, Code Revision, Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and State Planning and Community Affairs committees in the Georgia House of Representatives. In addition to her legislative duties, Deborah serves on boards for the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust, the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber of Commerce and the Advisory Board for the Chastain Park Conservancy.
