| My name is Soo Hong and I am running to represent Georgia House District 102. I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and when I was 10 years old, my family immigrated to the United States. My parents left their family and friends because they wanted better opportunities and a better life for me and my brother. I learned English with the help of amazing teachers who volunteered after school at Powers Ferry Elementary. That experience has left an indelible mark on my life and helped me get to where I am today. I went on to graduate from Georgia Tech and then Mercer Law School. Without the teachers who went out of their way to teach me English and the community that welcomed me with open arms, I wouldn't be here practicing law and now running for office.
Watching my parents work hard and do whatever they could to provide a better life for us in America instilled in me the value of hard work. My first job was as a cashier at Stein Mart in high school. And I worked various part-time jobs to put myself through college. Thankfully, when my parents were no longer able to work, I was able to step up and support them. I believe hard work will allow you to accomplish your dreams and in turn, allow you to give back to the people and community around you. Family means everything to me and I am grateful to have parents that believed in the American Dream and sacrificed so much for me to achieve it.
I am a successful lawyer with my own practice and offices in Gwinnett and Marietta. I have been an attorney for over a decade and in my practice, I've helped every day people facing tough times. I have always felt a strong passion for helping people and this passion has further motivated me to run for this seat. |
