Senator P.K. Martin, a Republican, w as elected to the State Senate in 2014. He represents the 9th District, which includes portions of Gwinnett County. Sen. Martin formerly served as a member of the Lawrenceville City Council since 2006. Sen. Martin serves as Chairman of the Education and Youth Committee and Vice-Chair of the Insurance and Labor Committee. He is also a member of the Higher Education and Transportation Committees, and is an ex-officio member of the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee. In 2015, GOPAC, an organization committed to educating and electing a new generation of Republican leaders, chose Sen. Martin as a member of their 2015 Class of Emerging Leaders. GOPAC's Emerging Leaders Program is designed for "talented state legislators who have demonstrated potential to have a positive impact in their state and in the Republican Party." Recently, he was honored with the "1849 Friend of Medicine Award" from the Medical Association of Georgia and named as a "2016 Powerhouse Policymaker" by Georgians For A Healthy Future for successfully sponsoring S.B. 302, a new law to improve accessibility and accuracy of healthcare provider directories. He is an active participant in his community. He serves on the board of Professional Insurance Agents of Georgia and has formerly served on the board of Providence Christian Academy. He is also a member of the Lawrenceville Rotary Club and a former member of Lawrenceville Kiwanis. Sen. Martin is a Lawrenceville native. He received his Bachelors degree in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology. A small businessman and insurance agent, he works at Hood Insurance Agency in Lawrenceville. He and his wife, Amanda, have two children, Charlotte and Kuhl, and are active members at their church, Holy Cross Cathedral in Loganville.
