Senator Emanuel Jones, a Democrat, has represented
Georgia's 10th District in the Georgia Senate since his
election in 2004. His district includes Southwest DeKalb
and Henry County.
He currently serves as Secretary of the Senate Committees
on Economic Development and Tourism and Interstate
Cooperation. Additionally, he is a member of the Senate
Committees on Appropriations, Banking and Financial
Institutions, Natural Resources and the Environment and
Urban Affairs. In the private sector, Sen. Jones is the president of Legacy Automotive Group, founded in 1993, which includes
Legacy Ford of McDonough, New Legacy Real Estate, and other business ventures. His company is one of the
largest African-American-owned businesses in the Atlanta area. Sen. Jones has received numerous honors and awards for his leadership and service. He was named one of
Atlanta Tribune Magazine's "Men of Distinction" and received the Global Peace Festival Award in Malaysia.
His accolades include the Black Enterprise Top 50 Minority-Owned Companies Award, the U.S. Department of
Commerce Minority Service Firm of the Year, and the 2008 Atlanta Business League's 50th Most Influential
Award. He was also nominated for the 2008 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award by Ambassador
Andrew Young. Sen. Jones earned his MBA in Finance and Accounting from Columbia University in 1986 and his BS in
Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. He was commissioned as a Second
Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1980 and rose to the rank of Captain. Before entering the
automotive industry in 1988 as a Ford Motor Company dealer candidate, Senator Jones held positions at IBM
and Arthur Andersen & Co. Active in his community, Sen. Jones has served as a Trustee and Finance Chairman for Henry Medical Center,
Chairman of the Henry County YMCA, and Chairman of Henry County's United Way Campaign. He has also
been involved with Partners in Education and served as Chairman of the Henry County Chamber of
Commerce. Sen. Jones is a past member of Leadership Georgia and has served on boards such as the James
Bristor Society at the University of Pennsylvania, the Onyx Honors Society and Columbia University Business
School's Greenhouse Project. He also sits on the boards for Georgia State University Project Healthy
Grandparents and the School of Social Policy and Practice at University of Pennsylvania. Sen Jones is a proud
