Bio

Ann Meyer is representative-elect for Iowa House District 9 and will be serving her first term this upcoming session. Ann was raised in Redford, Michigan, graduating from Redford Union High School and going on to earn her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit (now the University of Detroit/Mercy). Ann began working as a nurse aide, then as a Registered Nurse, and then spent five years working in the ICU. She also worked home healthcare for post-op cardiac bypass patients. Ann met her husband, Jim, during his training at Garden City Hospital in Michigan and they were married in 1994. Their son, Jacob, was born in 1995 (11 weeks premature). The family moved to Fort Dodge in 2000. In Fort Dodge, Ann worked at Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) as a nursing instructor and as a weekend rounding nurse for Iowa Heart. She took some time off to raise Jacob and worked as a volunteer for many school events and activities. In 2011 she returned to ICCC to resume working as a nursing instructor. Currently, Ann serves on the ICCC Simulation Center Advisory Board. She served on the Trinity Regional Medical Center Volunteer Board for 12 years (serving as President for one year), the IHA Auxilian and Volunteer Board for two years, and with PEO Chapter MT Fort Dodge (serving as President for two years from 2010-2012). She has also served on youth and young adult committees at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge where her family are members. Her husband, Jim is a Pulmonologist in Fort Dodge and Jacob attends Iowa State University in Ames. In the House, Ann has the knowledge to help improve healthcare and make it more affordable for Iowans across the state. She will work to help grow the economy and invest in a skilled and competitive workforce.
