Bio

Born and raised in rural Black Hawk County, Derek Wulf is a fourth-generation farmer/rancher from Hudson, Iowa. Derek graduated from Hudson High School in 2000 and then continued his education at Iowa State University, obtaining a degree in Animal Science. After attending Iowa State, Derek worked in Iowa agribusiness for 15 years at Cargill, Inc as a Swine Nutrition and Production Specialist. Derek also spent two years as a Global Swine Production Specialist for Cargill, Inc, traveling Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Europe to train and support the global pork business. Derek has spent his lifetime building a successful livestock and crop operation in rural Black Hawk and Tama Counties on land that has been in his family for generations. Derek currently farms and ranches full time where he and his family produce beef cattle, swine, corn, soybeans, and hay. Derek's wife, Dresden, is also a lifelong Iowan, form Eldora, Iowa. Dresden has been an instructor in the Agriculture Department at Hawkeye Community College for 15 years. Derek and Dresden have two children, Aubrey who is 10 and Claire who is 7 that both attend Hudson Elementary School and are very active in youth rodeo and 4-H. Derek current serves as Black Hawk County Cattleman President, and is active on the Black Hawk County Fairboard where he also serves on the livestock committee. Derek decided to run for Iowa House of Representatives in District 76 to represent the people in the communities he grew up in and has lived in his entire life. "It's critically important to me that the voices of our rural communities be heard so they can continue to grow and thrive for our children who will one day continue on our businesses, farms, and communities. I am a proponent of fighting for anything that helps our small businesses develop and grow, as well as continuing to attract investment by the diverse array of businesses that are willing to invest in our Iowa communities, all of which support our economy to keep rural Iowa strong for future generations." Derek is ready to advocate for his community at the Statehouse. He wants to work to ensure that the good people of Black Hawk and Tama counties have their interests heard when it comes to the policies being set in Des Moines. He will work to ensure that no matter the topic being debated, this part of Northeast Iowa is represented well. When it comes to any policy, Derek will always want to hear from his constituents; regardless of what political party they prefer. And when it comes to a vote, he will always explain his reasoning for the way he voted.
