Bio

Born and raised on a small acreage in Harrison County, Iowa, I developed a love and appreciation for what makes Iowa so great- its values, its people, and its land. Upon graduation from Tri-Center High School in the early 90's, I came to Pella to pursue my dream job - working with children and the great outdoors. I attended Central College and then Simpson College where I graduated with a B.A. in Environmental Science and Biology. My husband and I have lived in rural Mahaska County since we were married 28 years ago. When we began having children, we understood the importance of strong families and stable homes, so I placed my career on hold to be a stay-at-home mom. Years turned in to more years and now I look back at two decades of a lifestyle involving faith, family and education. Along with being a mother and grandma, I have worked as the Mahaska County Conservation Board Naturalist, served as a Mahaska County 4-H Organizational Leader, and poultry superintendent/youth judge throughout the state of Iowa. I tutored elementary science for ten years with Classical Conversations and have taught private high school science classes to homeschoolers for six years. I am a homeschool mom, life-long Iowan, and grassroots leader of several groups. I am currently chairperson of the advocacy group, Protect My Innocence, which exposes and pushes back against sexualization of Iowa's children. This group has sought to inform Iowans of issues that threaten our children's innocence. We have hosted speakers such as U.S. Senate Candidate, Jim Carlin, and Iowa's own conservative political news host, Jacob Hall of the Iowa Standard. We have kept a presence at the Iowa Capitol, local city council meetings, library boards, and Republican Central Committees as we influence state and local officials to make decisions that protect our youth.
