I grew up in the West End of Louisville, the oldest of 9 children. My father was an electrician, my mother a dedicated stay-at-home Mom. I graduated from Murray State University, and earned graduate degrees from Vanderbilt University and the University of Louisville. I was a registered nurse, then a nurse practitioner. After completing medical school and residency, I began a career as an obstetrician/gynecologist. I delivered over 7,000 babies at Louisville hospitals and Clark Memorial Hospital. I taught medical students for 9 years, and currently work part-time as an obstetrical hospitalist.
I was married to the late John Fleming for 42 wonderful years. John was a counselor at Parkview Middle School for most of his educational career. We had four children who now work in construction, health care, finance, and aviation. One is a Navy pilot, another a reservist. I have 14 grandchildren. I like to write books for then. I make quilts (have to do something while waiting for babies!), and have donated several to schools and local charities.
I have served on the Jeffersonville Planning Commission and Zoning Boards through a couple of administrations. I am also on the Library Foundation Board. I helped restore downtown Jeffersonville through the rehab of several buildings. I have been on the local Main Street Board since 1999.
I am grateful to Southern Indiana for welcoming my family more than 30 years ago. I would like to serve District 71 as your State Representative. |
