Sam Jenkins was born in Shreveport, La. to the late Rev. Sam L. Jenkins, Sr. and the late Annie F. Jenkins. He is a product of the Caddo Parish Public School system, and a 1974 graduate of C. E. Byrd High School. He went on to obtain his undergraduate degree in Political Science and a Law Degree from Southern University School of Law, serving two terms as President of the Student Government Association. He presently has a private law practice with a concentration in civil and criminal litigation and medical malpractice.
Despite the demands of his profession, Sam Jenkins has a long record of civic and community involvement. He founded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Foundation sponsoring an annual observance day program and awarding financial assistance to deserving students. He was the former Chairman of the Board of Directors for Legal Services of North Louisiana where legal assistance is provided to the poor in 26 parishes across north Louisiana. He has held local, state and regional offices for the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
He is a former member of the Caddo Parish Commission, the governing authority for the north Louisiana parish of Caddo, representing District 5. He is a former member of the Shreveport City Council representing District G, and as was Chairman of the Shreveport City Council. He presently serves as State Representative for District 2. He serves as Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Legislative Committee assignments include Civil Law, House and Governmental Affairs and House Executive Committee. |
