Bio

A native of Shreveport, La, Steven Jackson is the sixth sibling of his mother the late Patricia Jackson's seven children. He graduated from Woodlawn High School and attended Grambling State University (GSU). While attending GSU, he had the privilege to forge an indelible stamp for student leadership as SGA Vice President and SGA President. While serving as SGA President, Jackson was elected by colleagues of seven (now eight) other SGA Presidents of the University of Louisiana System (ULS) to serve as the Student Member of the ULS Board of Supervisors, which serves as the managing and operating board of eight (now nine) universities in Louisiana. Keeping a commitment to educational achievement, Jackson completed an interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Liberal Arts from Louisiana State University-Shreveport in Spring 2012. Jackson has served in several professional and volunteer capacities within the Shreveport community. In 2012 Jackson was recognized by the Shreveport Bossier Chamber of Commerce, Young Professional Initiative (YPI) as one of Shreveport's 40 Under 40 young professionals. Jackson served as Executive Assistant to the Honorable Mayor Cedric B. Glover serving as an advisor for state and federal legislative affairs, special economic development projects, liaison for quasi-governmental agencies, and neighborhood associations. In the Fall 2015 Caddo residents of District-3 elected Jackson to represent them on the Caddo Parish Commission. Capturing 64 % of the vote, he is the youngest person to ever serve on the Commission. In 2017 he became the youngest person (30 years old) to serve as President of the Caddo Parish Commission . During his first term as a commissioner he is credited with (but not limited to)- ​​ ​ Spearheading local efforts to establish a Southern University Law School satellite in Shreveport. ​ Establishing the E.E Edwards Jones Housing Trust Fund and securing $1 million for seed funding. ​ Secured $1million dollars to help support building Caddo Common Park. ​ Enacting legislation to place a moratorium on payday lending companies. ​ Establishing the Parish's Safe Summer Fund which has increased the number of youth employed during the summer and summer recreational activities. ​ Established the Reinvest Caddo Property program to help developers clear liens and fines from adjudicated properties. ​ Established the wheel chair ramps and roof replacement program for Caddo Parish Seniors and Military Veterans. Jackson has extensive private sector work experience in healthcare and housing. In 2020 he was recommended by Senator Greg Tarver and appointed to by Governor John Bel Edwards to represent Louisiana's 4th Congressional District on the Louisiana Housing Corporation. Jackson lives, leads, and serves by the motto, "he, who is greatest among you, shall be a servant" his ultimate goal in life is to leave a legacy of selfless service to others.
