Bio

I am a life-long resident of Johnston County. I am currently serving my third term on the Johnston County Board of Education. I am the only currently elected school board member in NC appointed by the Governor to serve on the Governor's Task Force on Safer Schools. I am the Chair of the Clayton Board of Adjustment. I am also a member of the Johnston County Area Transit Service Advisory Board and the Johnston County Schools Health Advisory Board. I previously served for 15 years on the Clayton Planning Board, and I was chairman of the Clayton High School Advisory Council for 13 years. I am an active member and Drama Director for Hocutt Baptist Church in Clayton. I graduated from Watts Hospital School of Nursing as a RN and have worked as a public health nurse in communicable disease, school health, pediatrics and home health. Formerly I was a medical consultant for the In- Home Services program in the NC Department of Public Health, where I helped establish the standard of practice for geriatric case management in North Carolina and the country. Currently I work as an Aging and Health Specialist in the Division of Aging and Adult Services in the NC Department of Health and Human Services, where I have developed a model of intervention to assist elder victims of telemarketing fraud and scams that is now a statewide program, the Victims Assistance Program. Through this program I have been privileged to be the co-host of the "Carl & Donna Show" heard on WTSB AM 1090, which highlights fraud and scam prevention for the elderly.
