Bio

Caleb is a data scientist and researches how to make public data more accessible and usable to the general public. He believes that data are critical to helping elected official and public leaders make better decisions and will use his background in data to draft policy and better understand the critical issues facing District 116. He has a masters degree in Global Policy Studies from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. If you would like to learn more about his work and publication history, visit his LinkedIn Profile. Caleb has worked in grassroots international development as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia and a researcher in Honduras. He is fluent in Spanish and Chinyanja and speaks passable Chinsenga and Hebrew. Asheville has always been in his heart, but he has served and organized all over the world. At the heart of it all is his love for people, cultures, and working towards a common goal. He wants to work to improve District 116 for all its people and believes his background in Spanish and cross cultural work will be an asset to reaching out to communities in the district, learning from them, and working to solving the issues they care about. Caleb has been a lifelong advocate for the French Broad River from river clean ups as the Ecology Club President at Asheville High School school to paddling the entire 219 miles of the river in 2021. He believes the river is not only the heart of the district but that it can help stimulate the economy. Caleb has seen the progress that the river has made since he was a kid and is excited to continue to push for funding and legislation to continue to protect and improve the water quality of the river. Caleb believes in service and has always stepped up to help with the challenges the community faces, as a platelet donor; volunteer with Big Brothers, Big sisters; contact tracer; census enumerator; Meals on Wheels delivery driver; and fundraiser. He believes that policy is one of the best tools we have to solve societal problems, but that we all have a personal part in volunteering and stepping up to make the world a better place. As an Asheville Native, Caleb grew up and came to love the district's vibrant arts, music and dance scene. When he is not running a campaign, analyzing a dataset, or volunteering in the community, you might find him at a dance, jam session, or out at a concert. Caleb started dancing at the Warren Wilson contra dances in high school but has since danced everything from Appalachian clogging to Cuban salsa. He started singing at the Asheville High School Madrigals choir, but has since expanded to playing guitar and piano with bluegrass, folk, and rock cover bands. Caleb believes that the arts are part of what make the district a great place to visit and live and will work to support and protect them.
