Bio

Buck Newton currently serves in the State Senate, representing Johnston, Nash and Wilson counties. Buck was elected in 2010, defeating five-term Democratic incumbent A.B. Swindell. Newton has chaired Judiciary Committees in the N.C. Senate since elected in 2010. Currently, Newton chairs the Judiciary I Committee as well as the Appropriations Committee on Justice and Public Safety. In these roles, he is a key voice in setting policy and funding priorities for North Carolina's judiciary and law enforcement agencies. A native of Wilson, NC, the 46 year old Newton graduated from Hunt High School before attending Appalachian State University where he received his bachelor's degree in Political Science before going on to graduate from Campbell University School of Law. Newton has previously served as Chairman of the Wilson County Republican Party as well as serving as an aide to Senator Jesse Helms on the Foreign Relations Committee. Newton has practiced law at his firm, Newton and Lee, in Wilson for the past sixteen years. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church. Buck and his wife Hope have three children- Sharpe, Thomas, and Virginia Grey.
