Bio

Hamida Dakane is a community organizer inspired to embrace her dreams while supporting others. Hamida is an appointee to the Fargo Human Relations Commission, Winner of the YWCA Woman of the Year award for Community and Volunteer Service, and recipient of a Fargo Human Relations award. She earned her bachelor's degrees in Emergency Management and International Studies from NDSU, and a Master of Public Administration from University of Mary. "I came into North Dakota as an out of state student in 2012. Over time, I got involved with the community in various capacities of service and leadership. Initially an outsider, I soon realized that I had found my home in this welcoming community. I instantly loved the people around me. I felt connected to what felt like a growing family. As a community organizer, it is my firm belief that the most healthy and active communities are made by collaboration - I will bring this spirit of cooperation as a Representative of District 10, and while working for greater North Dakota. I believe a forward thinking and hands-on approach can effectively address vital elements in our community - these include educational equity, the growing workforce needs, and the housing crisis. I will foster a safe and welcoming community for all residents. I want to bridge barriers, build futures, connect communities, share objectives, and work together to achievable solutions to our common problems. In the past decade, I have helped create positive change in our community through various leadership positions. I have connected people and communities for a stronger future - work I'm proud of. These team efforts involve all of us as stakeholders making our district and state the best place to live. I work hard for development and growth. I listen. I promote civic education in immigrant communities to enhance the involvement of new Americans in the political process. I travel the state, organizing with candidates to ensure we are all involved in growing together for a better future. I look forward to working for the circumstances we all want, and if we do not find them, we must make them."
