Bio

Michelle Axtman is a Bismarck native, Air Force Officer, wife, and mom of two young girls. After living in many cities around the country throughout her Air Force career, Michelle and her family made the decision to return to North Dakota and make Bismarck their home. Michelle is an alumna of Century High School and a 2009 Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. She received a bachelor's degree in Geospatial Sciences and a minor in Chinese. She competed on the Air Force Academy's collegiate women's rugby team. Following graduation and commissioning, she was selected to attend Air Force pilot training. She served as an active duty Air Force pilot for 12 years, flying as an instructor pilot on the T-1 aircraft and as an E-3 AWACS aircraft commander. She was also selected for the position of Executive Officer to the Commander of Air Force Recruiting Service. She currently continues to serve in the Air Force Reserve. In 2013, Michelle earned a Master's degree in project management from the University of Mary. Michelle is an active member of the Republican party, and recently worked as the assistant to the House Majority Leader during North Dakota's special session. She is the secretary for St Anne School's Parent Teacher Organization and a member of Corpus Christi parish. Michelle has always recognized the importance of service to our country and in our community. She has lived by the Air Force's moto 'Service Before Self' and views the role of a citizen legislator as an extension of that service. As a member of the United States Military, she has made a solemn oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. Her legislative focus is on prioritizing community and family safety, delivering a quality learning experience for all ND students, growing our state's skilled workforce, and developing strategies that lower taxes. Michelle and her husband (fellow Bismarck native), Dr. Benjamin Axtman, are happy to call Bismarck home with their two daughters, Remi (6) and Brea (4) and their two labs.
