Bio

Iwen came to New York with 2 pieces of luggage and the drive to pursue her American Dream. When studying for her Masters of Sociology from CUNY Brooklyn College, she fell in love with New York's diverse, vibrant cultures and all our city has to offer. Born and raised in Taiwan, she has dedicated herself to the communities of southern Brooklyn and planted roots with her husband and daughter in Dyker Heights. As a public school parent, a community journalist, and a public servant, Iwen has seen the infinite challenges that working families face every day. In order to make a difference for her community, which has been historically underserved, she has worked in the New York State Assembly to bridge the gap between the Asian-American immigrant community and the State government. She believes that active political involvement is the best way to bring positive change for the community. Iwen is committed to prioritizing the issues that Southern Brooklyn families care about- a neighborhood that our children, our seniors, and our families can be proud of. That is why she has spent many years serving as a Board Member of Brooklyn Community Board 11, a council member for Community Education Council District 20, a board member of HealthCare Choices, and as a community partner for the NYPD 68th precinct. The experience and knowledge she has gained from working with these organizations has strengthened her commitment in advocating for better quality of education, immigrant rights and justice, affordable housing, mental health care and most importantly, public and street safety for all. Iwen's comprehensive experiences makes her the strongest, most experienced and passionate voice to represent the families and residents of Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Kensington in Albany.
