Bio

Samuel A. Azzinaro has served the residents of District 37 in Westerly since his election in November 2008. He is a proud graduate of Westerly High School (1960) and Rhode Island School of Design. Rep. Azzinaro is a Deputy Majority Leader as well as the chairman of the House Rules Committee. He is also the vice chairman of both the House Health, Education and Welfare Committee and the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. His recent legislative accomplishments include the enactment of bill allowing liquor stores to open at 10 a.m. on Sundays and prohibiting the price gouging of essential commodities during an emergency. Rep. Azzinaro previously served for 12 years on the Westerly Town Council, including four years as its President. He also served 5 years on the Westerly Recreation Board, 3 years as its chair. Rep. Azzinaro is proud to have served in the United States' military. He served 4 years in the Army Reserve and 4 additional years in the National Guard. Rep. Azzinaro was born on January 29, 1943. The father of five is a retired textile worker, business owner and carpenter, and resides in Westerly with his wife, Carol. They are the parents of five children- Tami Algiere, Amy Azzinaro, Lori Gulluscio, Samuel J. Azzinaro and Mary Azzinaro-Banks.
