Committee Assignments


Eddie was first elected to the State Legislature in 2002. He was re-elected in November 2014 to his seventh term as the Representative from District 51, serving East Austin and Southeast Travis County. Eddie serves on the House Committees on Economic & Small Business Development and Environmental Regulation. He is also founder and Chair of the Texas House Farm-to-Table Caucus, Chair of the YMCA Caucus, Vice Chair of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus and an active member of the House Democratic Caucus and the Legislative Study Group. Eddie was born and raised in Rio Grande Valley, where he graduated from McAllen Memorial High School. He studied government at The University of Texas at Austin and earned his law degree in 2008 from The University of Texas School of Law. Prior to his election, he served as chief of staff to Representative Glen Maxey and as the executive director of the Travis County Democratic Party. Eddie's legislative agenda has addressed economic development and job creation, housing, education, hunger and nutrition, health and human services, and environmental issues. Some of his legislative accomplishments include authoring legislation that relates to the establishment of the state's Homestead Preservation District and the National School Breakfast Program. In his role as Chair of the Farm-to-Table Caucus, Rodriguez has also passed legislation such as the Cottage Foods Bill that promotes local farm-based economies and access to healthy foods for all Texans. Eddie serves on the boards of Capital Area Council of Governments, Urban Roots, the Alliance for Public Transportation, the City of Austin's Working Group on Sustainable Development, the Economic Growth Business Incubator, and the Anti-Defamation League-Austin Chapter. Previous board positions include Austin Pets Alive! and Austin Habitat for Humanity. In his free time, Eddie enjoys spending time with his wife Christine, son Jack and daughter Sophie. He is an avid runner and foodie and can often be seen on the trail or at local farm-to-table restaurants.
