| Venton Jones is a native of House District 100 representing a new generation of leaders committed to advancing equity and justice through two decades of experience leading organizations, impacting public policy, and organizing diverse communities. Since the beginning of his career, Venton has been a tireless advocate working to improve healthcare access, fighting for marginalized communities and middle-class families, and protecting voting rights.
Venton is the Founder and CEO of the Southern Black Policy and Advocacy Network (SBPAN), a non-profit with the mission of improving health, social, and economic conditions impacting Black communities in the U.S. South. Venton has a long history of successfully implementing innovative and effective initiatives nationally, throughout the State of Texas, and locally in Dallas County. Throughout his career, Venton has served in various high profile leadership roles working with some of the nation's leading public policy organizations, lawmakers, and community leaders advancing health and economic policy. In 2019, Venton was appointed to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Advisory Committee on HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and STD Prevention and Treatment by the Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar.
As an active member of the Democratic Party, Venton serves as a neighborhood Precinct Chairman and an Election Judge. He is also a former Board member of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas. In addition to his work with the Democratic Party, Venton serves as the Chairman of the Dallas County HIV Task Force, former Vice-Chair of the Dallas County Ryan White Planning Council, and former Board member of the City of Dallas Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
With extensive background and experience, Venton serves as an expert consultant for elected officials, community-based organizations, health departments, and federal and state government entities in Dallas and around the country. In 2011, Venton was recognized at the White House by President Barack Obama for his HIV advocacy work.
Venton received his Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from Texas A&M University, his Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and a Free and Accepted Masons (F.A.A.M.). |
