Rep. Steve Handy, Republican, represents Utah's 16th legislative district, which covers east Layton, a small portion of Clearfield and Hill Air Force Base. He was appointed by Governor Gary R. Herbert in April, 2010 and has been re-elected four times. His committee assignments include- Chairman, Public Utilities, Energy, and Technology; Member, Natural Resources, Environment, and Agriculture; Member, Natural Resources, Environment, and Agriculture Appropriations. Representing you has been a great honor and a trust that I don't take lightly. I look forward to your continuing support and sharing your concerns as we move ahead. ​​ Professionally, Steve owns a public relations and marketing business, which he opened in 2002 after 17 years as the marketing director for both the Standard-Examiner and Deseret News. He represents a variety of clients and assists them with their communications and marketing needs. He has written several company histories including, A Century of Putting People First, the Centennial History of First National Bank of Layton; Lagoon- America's Largest, Family-Owned Amusement Park; and Our Home at Hill, A History of Housing at Hill Air Force Base. state government. Endorsements/Awards- A graduate of the University of Utah, Steve has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's in Human Resources Management. He has been an adjunct professor in the David Eccles School of Business teaching Marketing Communications in the Professional MBA program at the University of Utah. Steve served as President of the Davis Arts Council and eight years on the Layton City Council. Currently, he is an Executive Board Member, Trapper Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America, a member of the United Way of Salt Lake's Davis County Leadership Council, and a member of the U.S. Forest Service's Unita-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Resources Advisory Council, appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. He is also a member of the State Water Plan Advisory Committee. In 2017, Steve concluded nine years as a board member of the American Red Cross of Utah Steve and his wife, Holly, have lived in Layton for 40 years and have six children and 15 grandchildren.
