Committee Assignments

I taught junior and senior high school students for over thirty years. Being a teacher has enriched my life and also led to my involvement in a number of professional and community leadership roles. Through coaching students in reading and writing, as well as my interest in how public policy impacts teaching and learning, I have become an active spokesperson for students, teachers, and the work they do together. I serve on the board of a small water company and am concerned about the quality and management of our water and delivery systems. I recognize the need to boldly address the questions about our communities' infrastructures as well as the future of employment, the economy, and the natural environment in Utah. Utah has been my family's home for six generations, with our roots in Sanpete County. It has remained home for my own family as my husband, Alan and I raised our son, Joe in Salt Lake County. Alan Weight and I met in the band that performed on Sunday evenings in Liberty Park. He, a trumpet player, and I, on trombone, performed in a number of brass ensembles and were instructors and owners of the Alan Weight Music Studios, which Alan had established in the 1970's. Alan passed away in 1992, when our son, Joseph, was a senior in high school. Joe now lives in Logan, where he is a business manager. I am currently a teacher in the Granite School District, and I hold a degree in education from Utah State, an M.A. from the University of Utah, and a number of teaching endorsements.
