Committee Assignments

A proven leader, Carol represents her community on key committees - Education, Executive Offices and Criminal Justice Appropriations, Executive Appropriations, and Economic Development and Workforce Services, as well as Public Utilities, Energy, and Technology Interim Committee, Administrative Rules, and Legislative Management. Along with those committees, she serves on the Attorney General and Utah Department of Health Opioid Task Forces, and the Utah Marriage Commission. She is also currently serving in caucus leadership as Democratic Whip. Before running for office, Carol taught English and Student Government for 33 years at Olympus High School, a career in which she excelled and one that has given her a unique understanding of education from a teacher's perspective. Teaching also taught her how to get along with all types of personalities, resolve conflicts, and solve problems- all critically important skills to be an effective legislator. Her academic credentials include a B.A. and M.A. in English, and an Educational Administration Certification from the University of Utah. Carol has served on the boards of YouthLinc, the Inclusion Center, SpyHop, Prevent Child Abuse Utah, Salt Lake County Commission on Youth, and Children of Ethiopia Education Fund. Carol and her husband Bob are the proud parents of five children and their dog Sadie, and grandparents of six wonderful grandchildren. They love traveling, some of their favorite places being Costa Rica, Southern California, New York, Washington D.C., Europe, China, and Turkey. Carol and Bob also love to spend time with family, read, go on walks, cycle, and, of course, discuss politics.
