| Tip McGuire has deep roots in the district and a strong record of service to the community. McGuire, who was born and raised in Somers, resides in the district and is currently working as a criminal prosecutor in Milwaukee County.
"The people of the 64th Assembly District have urged me to seek this seat, and I hope to continue the legacy of excellent service they have received in the State Capitol" Tip McGuire said. "I'm running for office because I believe state government can do more to empower every resident in this district and ensure that they can reach their fullest potential. Over the coming weeks and months, I look forward to speaking with residents to learn what they want to see from their next Representative."
Tip McGuire has proudly served the Kenosha area community. He is currently the President of the Kenosha Public Library Foundation Board, a board he has served on for over six years. Tip also served on the board of the National Alliance for Mental Illness - Kenosha (NAMI).
"The people of the 64th Assembly District expect and deserve to have a Representative who will stand up for our shared values, including affordable healthcare, workers rights, criminal justice reform, high quality public schools, and good paying jobs" McGuire added.
Tip attended elementary school at St. Sebastian's in Sturtevant and St. Catherine's High School in Racine. He earned his bachelor's degree from Marquette University and he was elected to serve on the student government. Following graduation, McGuire worked from 2009 to 2014 as a legislative aide for Rep. Peter Barca. In that role, McGuire served district residents by helping them navigate state agency issues, advising Rep. Barca on policy issues, and hosting numerous groups at the State Capitol and in the district.
McGuire left Barca's office to earn his law degree from the University of Wisconsin. In law school he worked with the Wisconsin Innocence Project and the Prosecution Project. Since then, he has worked as a criminal prosecutor, first in the Kenosha County District Attorney's office as a special prosecutor, and today as an Assistant District Attorney in Milwaukee County.
Gov. Tony Evers will be calling a special election this spring following the resignation of former Rep. Peter Barca, who is now serving as Secretary of the Department of Revenue.
The 64th Assembly District includes much of the City of Kenosha and portions of the City of Racine, Town of Somers, Village of Mount Pleasant and Village of Elmwood Park. |
