Bio

Patrice Ernita "Penni" McClammy is an American attorney and politician serving as a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives for District 76. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, McClammy attended Sidney Lanier High School before pursuing higher education at several institutions. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Hampton University in 1997, an Associate of Arts in legal studies from Faulkner University in 1999, a Juris Doctor from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in 2002, and a PhD in public policy and administration from Florida State University in 2006. McClammy operates her own private legal practice, Patrice E. McClammy, Attorney-At-Law, LLC, in Montgomery. Her professional background is rooted in law, with additional experience and academic credentials in public policy and administration. Her entry into the Alabama House of Representatives came after the passing of her father, Thad McClammy, who had served in the House since 1994. Following his death in August 2021, Patrice McClammy declared her candidacy to succeed him. She was the only qualified candidate to register for the special election and assumed office unopposed on November 17, 2021. She was officially sworn in by retired Judge Charles Price. McClammy expressed gratitude to her family and paid tribute to her late father and other family members during her swearing-in. As a legislator, McClammy has stated her commitment to representing not only District 76 but also being a voice for all residents of Alabama. Upon taking office, she announced her intention to pre-file bills aimed at deleting the sales tax on groceries and prescription medication, reflecting her focus on issues that directly affect the cost of living for her constituents. She won re-election in the 2022 general election, with her current term set to end on November 4, 2026. McClammy is recognized for her academic achievements, professional legal work, and her role as a successor to her father's legislative legacy in Montgomery. She continues to reside in Montgomery, Alabama, and remains active in both her legal practice and legislative duties.
