Bio

Currently chair of the Tolleson Planning Commission, where she has served since 2013, Eva is an Arizona native, who grew up in Phoenix and moved to Tolleson in 1992. She is married and the mother of 2 children. Her 27 years in the education arena include teaching in three area elementary school districts, and in administrative positions as Assistant Principal at the Isaac Elementary School District and as Principal at Avondale Elementary School District. She has also been an instructor at South Mountain Community College and at Arizona State University. Dr. Diaz got her PhD from Arizona State in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership. Eva has been part of the Red for Ed movement of the Arizona Education Association which began an aggressive fight for public education in the state in 2018. She has also been active as a volunteer and in paid positions with Chicanos Por La Causa Community Center. Eva Diaz and her mother Ruth Diaz are co-owners of Ni Hao Amigos Language Preschool in Avondale, where their vision is to prepare young children to be successful in kindergarten. Over the years, Eva has also been part of the Children's Ministry at church. As a longtime public school educator, small business owner, and resident of Tolleson since 1992, I am prepared to take on Arizona's biggest challenges. Voters can trust that I will be a fighter for our public education students and families and will work to address the many issues facing our school system such as lack of funding for critical programs and shortage of qualified teachers. I promise to be an advocate for reproductive freedom, and will stop at nothing to ensure people have access to safe and legal abortion services. As the Democratic candidate for Legislative District 22, I am dedicated to speaking with voters across the district about the issues that are deeply affecting our community. I understand that our communities have put their trust in me and I make a promise to them that if elected I will never forget that. I look forward to connecting with voters across the district and getting to work for a better Arizona for all of us.
