| Senator Jaquez Lewis was elected to the Colorado State Senate in November 2020 and serves Eastern Boulder County, which includes Longmont, Lafayette, Louisville. Prior to becoming Senator, she served Boulder County in the Colorado House of Representatives. She currently serves as a member of the State, Veterans and Military Affairs and Health and Human Services Committees.
Prior to her service in the legislature, Senator Jaquez Lewis was a licensed pharmacist and former Medicaid Pharmacy Director for Colorado Access, where she initiated the start of the modern Colorado Medicaid program to increase healthcare access for thousands of Coloradans. With a passion for advancing public health, she then joined the Boulder County Board of Health where she voted for the first oil and gas moratorium in Boulder County, which kept oil and gas out of the county for five years. She also played a key role in the emergency response to the 2013 floods, which focused on providing housing assistance to residents in need and caring for animals in danger.
As the former president of Boulder Pride -- now called Out Boulder -- Senator Jaquez Lewis used her powerful voice as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community to advocate for the advancement of civil rights and equality -- issues that remain central to her political platform as an elected official in the legislature.
As a State Senator, she serves on the State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee and as a member of the Health and Insurance Committee. She currently lives in Boulder County, Colorado. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy.
