Committee Assignments


Senator Brittany Pettersen was elected to the Colorado State Senate in 2018, where she currently serves as Vice Chair of both the Health and Human Services and the Transportation Committees. In 2012, Brittany was first elected to serve District 28 in the Colorado House of Representatives, where she served as Chair of the Education Committee and as a member of the Public Health & Human Services Committee. During that time, she also served as House majority whip. Since taking office, Senator Pettersen has fought to help Colorado's students and working families. She has sponsored and passed legislation to increase funding for college tuition assistance, accountability for charter schools, and the number of slots in preschool. She has also worked to equitably allocate public education funding, aid working parents access child care, and address the opioid epidemic. Brittany has nearly a decade of experience working for candidates, issues, and nonprofits. Before running for office, she worked for New Era Colorado - a nonprofit dedicated to engaging youth in state and local government. Senator Pettersen is a fourth-generation Coloradan and has lived in Jefferson County nearly her entire life. She put herself through college and became the first in her family to graduate with a college degree. Brittany lives with her husband Ian in Lakewood.
