| Senator Coleman was elected to the Colorado State Senate in November 2020 after serving four years in the House of Representatives as Majority Co-Whip. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee and serves as a member on the Business Affairs & Labor Committee, the Appropriations Committee, and the Legislative Council Committee.
In addition to serving in the Colorado State Senate, James works as the CEO of FaithBridge, a local nonprofit mobilizing the faith community to improve education in Colorado. He also serves as the Vice President of Community Engagement at ACE Scholarships as well as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for Highline Academy, a tuition-free public charter school with a custom liberal arts curriculum and rigorous academic program.
James Coleman is a native of Denver and currently lives in the Green Valley Ranch area with his middle school sweetheart, Shayna, and their two children James Jr. and Naomi (twins).
Growing up in the Park Hill Neighborhood, he attended both public and private institutions - giving him a diverse perspective on Colorado's education system. Now as a father of two public school students, James has become a passionate champion for excellent education and quality options. He understands that different students and families have different needs, and every parent deserves the opportunity to choose the school that works best for their child.
After high school, James went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, with a minor in Business Administration from Oral Roberts University.
His civic engagement also includes work with his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Tony Grampsas Youth Services Board, and several other organizations. |
