Bio

Ed Hooper was elected to the Florida Senate in 2018 and has been reelected subsequently. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2014. Before his time in the legislature, he was a Clearwater City Commissioner from 1996 to 2000. Throughout his career, Hooper has received numerous honors and awards, including Representative of the Year from The Able Trust in 2014, Legislator of the Year from the Manufacturers Association of Florida in 2013, and the Legislative Award from the Florida Sheriffs Association in 2010. He has been recognized multiple times by organizations such as the Florida League of Cities, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, and the Florida Education Association. In 2014, he was named "Taxpayer Advocate of the Year" by Florida Tax Collectors and received the "Distinguished Advocate" Award from the Florida Chamber of Commerce for his work on private flood insurance legislation. St. Petersburg College also honored him as an Outstanding Alumnus in 2013. Hooper is a retired firefighter and a partner at Consus Group, LLC. He is married to Lee Hooper of Queens, New York, and they have two children, Brian and Ann, along with five grandchildren- Amanda, Arin, John, Brianna, and Brad. Born in Statesville, North Carolina, he moved to Florida in 1972. He attended Saint Petersburg College and enjoys golfing in his free time.
