| Bryan Avila was elected to the Senate in 2022 and was subsequently reelected. He previously served in the House of Representatives from 2014 to 2022, where he held leadership positions as Speaker Pro Tempore from 2020 to 2022 and Majority Deputy Whip from 2016 to 2018.
His public service includes serving on the City of Hialeah Planning and Zoning Board from 2011 to 2014 and the City of Hialeah Scholarship Board from 2012 to 2014.
He has received several honors, including the MG Ronald O. Harrison Distinguished Service Award and the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Distinguished Community Service Award.
He has been involved in various affiliations, serving as a board member of Enterprise Florida from 2019 to 2023 and on the Board of Trustees for the Public Health Trust from 2016 to 2019. He has also been a member of the Miami-Dade County Republican Executive Committee since 2009, where he served as Vice Chairman from 2013 to 2014.
He is currently an Academic Dean. He is married to Cindy Gil of Bogota, Colombia, and they have two children, Olivia Rose and Brandon.
He earned an A.A. from Miami Dade College in 2004, where he served as President of the Student Government Association and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. He later obtained a B.A. from the University of Miami in 2006, where he was a member of the Federacion de Estudiantes Cubanos. He also earned an M.S. and a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University in 2010, where he was recognized for outstanding academic achievement and was a member of Golden Key International Honor Society and Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society.
Born in Hialeah, Florida, he serves as a First Lieutenant in the Florida Army National Guard, a position he has held since April 2016. He is a Roman Catholic and enjoys spending time with family, playing sports, exercising, traveling, and reading. |
