Committee Assignments

Representative Sheri Gilligan was elected and sworn in to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2015 and represents the citizens of House district 24, which includes portions of Forsyth County, and the city of Cumming. Representative Sheri Gilligan was born and raised in Forsyth County and learned the importance of giving everything 100% early in life. When the local all-male 4-H club rifle team needed a new teammate, she competed and earned a spot on that district-winning team, and eventually, Sheri became the highest scoring member and went on to set a new state record. Sheri and her brothers were the first generation in their family to have the opportunity to attend college. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Sheri moved to the suburbs of Washington, D.C., where she enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves and enjoyed a 20-year career in the intelligence field. During her career, Sheri gained a reputation as a subject matter expert in her field. She demanded the highest level of accuracy in herself and the analysts working for and with her. It was her persistent search for facts, coupled with a natural intellectual curiosity that afforded her great success in her chosen career as an intelligence analyst with the CIA and other agencies. After her husband retired early, Sheri and her family moved back to the north Georgia Mountains to be close to their extended family. Rep. Gilligan is an active member of her community. She and her husband previously ran a children's ministry in their church which had 300 children and over 100 adult volunteer leaders. Sheri served as a board member of the Bald Ridge Lodge, a home for at-risk boys, serving as secretary for two years. Sheri also served on the executive boards of the Forsyth County Republican Party and the local Tea Party. Sheri is a substitute teacher in the Forsyth County schools and taught Nutrition and Diet Therapy as an adjunct instructor at Lanier Technical College. Sheri and her husband Patrick have four adult daughters and two grandsons. The Gilligans are active members of First Redeemer Church in Cumming where Sheri plays oboe in the orchestra.
