Bio

Yasmin Neal is a native of Georgia, and was born and raised in Clayton County. Yasmin Neal was the youngest member of the GA House of Representatives from the 2011-2013; elected at the age of 25 years old. In the House of Representatives; Yasmin served on the Judicial Non-Civil Committee (sets GA criminal law), Public Safety and Homeland Security, and Children and Youth. Yasmin is a Bio-Medical Engineer with GE Healthcare. She was a police officer on the Chief's Staff at the Clayton County Police Department, and was a Detective in the Major Felony Unit. Yasmin also worked at the Clayton County Sheriff's Department as an Internal Affairs/ Backgrounds and Hiring Investigator, and then an Investigator in the Fugitive Unit. She is a graduate of Jonesboro High School and has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and an MBA in Global Management. Yasmin also attended the Womens Campaign School at Yale University. Yasmin is also an award-winning writer/director/producer. She has won awards and premiered her films across the United States and Canada. Her work has been featured at Morehouse Human Rights Film Festival, Loyola University (California) and countless other venues across the nation. Yasmin has worked with- Georgia Public Broadcasting as a Production Assistant and covered the legislative process as an intern with GBP's "LAWMAKERS" live television show. Yasmin was also a writer for the Clayton News Daily Yasmin was a writer for the Henry Daily Herald Newspaper. Yasmin was the Press Secretary for the Young Democrats of Georgia Yasmin has also worked for the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles. Yasmin was on the School of Criminal Justice advisory board at ITT Tech University, was a member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, and the Young Elected Officials Network. AWARDS- 2011 Conservation Award from Georgia Conservation Voters, for consistently voting to protect all of Georgia's natural resources while at the House of Representatives 2012 Future is Now Award from the Young Democrats of Atlanta 2012 Political Advocate Award from the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals, 2012 Star Award from the Georgia League of Women Voters. Yasmin had a non-profit, Clayton Rocks, which engaged and supported youth activities in the Clayton County area. The kick off event was defense class that was taught to teenage girls over the summer of 2011. Yasmin has been invited to speak at Morehouse University, Clark Atlanta University, Southern Polytechnic University, Clayton State University Women in Politics lecture and Clayton State University for a lecture on Politics in general. Yasmin is still very much engaged with various charities in her community; mostly centered around children. In 2012 Yasmin teamed up with Barnes and Noble and brought in over 1000 books for a local pre-school. Additionally, from 2011-2014 Yasmin has been a debate team coach at a local middle school Babb Middle School. The brand new team has placed at the state championships for two years in a row; she's hoping the kids take it home in 2014. 2014- Yasmin attended the Womens Campaign School at Yale University and the Blue Training institute supported, organization supported by Former Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams. 2014-Present- Yasmin has continued her volunteerism and charity work partnering with different feed the homeless initiatives. She has also worked behind the scenes to get numerous elected officials in office by creating marketing and video spots for female candidates. 2015-2017 Yasmin was the Head of Partnerships and Data Aggregation where she was one of the original members of the political Application company called EMPOWRD, which is a political app designed to make it easier for people to engage with their elected officials and activist and organizations. The success of Empowrd resulted in partnerships with large companies such as Microsoft, Georgia State University and more. Citizens gaining access to the application have been pleased with knowing more about politics and having all of the necessary information in the palm of their hands. She is joined by a number of other esteemed women to include attorneys, judges, educators and more. The mission of the organization is to leverage education, mentorship, and experiential instruction to become the state's leader in culturally responsive civic education for girls of color. CLA will elevate girls to be competent, capable, and confident leaders in public service. Yasmin has started to engage the local girls of district 74 by starting with a local Middle School and introducing them to the program via the launch event at Atlanta Tech where the local girls of district 74 got to engage with elected officials and learn more about current/past women in politics.
