Committee Assignments

Hi! My name is Becky Evans. I`m a proud wife, mother of 3, retired healthcare industry executive, non-profit co-founder, and DeKalb public schools volunteer. I'm also our current State Representative for Georgia House District 89 currently, and our candidate for the newly redistricted Georgia House District 90 in the May 21, 2024 Primary Elections. I graduated from Emory University. My husband David and I raised our three children here in DeKalb County for the past 32 years, all of whom graduated from Druid Hills High School. My family has been active members of North Decatur Presbyterian Church for 37 years. I have dedicated my life to servant leadership, and I have served my community in many roles- nonprofit co-founder, political aide, volunteer, advocate, and mother. We love living in our community and I bring all my experience and passion for service to the Capitol as your representative. In my final year at Emory, I was fortunate enough to be a member of the first class of interns at the Carter Center. Addressing the class, Jimmy Carter quoted his beloved teacher, Miss Julia Coleman, and said "we must adjust to changing times and still hold to unchanging principles." This message has resonated with me throughout my life and is on my mind every day as I fight to implement the changes our community values- Decreasing gun violence and easy access to guns Increasing the number of affordable housing units Building healthier and safer neighborhoods Building the strongest and best possible schools for our kids Fighting for access to high quality , affordable healthcare Protecting our natural resources. Moving Georgia to a more sustainable, environmentally friendly business model. And promoting alternative energy options because protecting clean air and water is important. Promoting environmental justice to protect every DeKalb neighborhood equally. Protecting our democracy and voting rights Promoting the increase of diversity in every corner of our community Ensuring women have autonomy over their bodies and reproductive decisions Fighting for economic equality for every DeKalb resident Striving for more ethical and transparent government Expanding and updating public transit Treating people fairly, with dignity and respect, and meaningfully involve people in the development of laws In the midst of changing times, I will always hold strong to these community principles.
