Bio

Bob Henderson, Teacher, Coach and Musician Bob Henderson was born and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Mathematics from Kutztown State as well as a Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration and Policy Study from SUNY-Albany where he worked on an assistantship researching educational law. He moved to Sioux City in 1989, where he accepted the position of assistant football coach at Morningside College. He was dismissed when he would not comply with decisions to violate NCAA rules for which the college was subsequently penalized. Eventually he re-entered the teaching profession and for the next 20 years taught high school mathematics in the Sioux City Schools. During his over 35 years of teaching, Henderson also served as a head football and baseball coach at the high school level, and went on to be an assistant college football coach for nearly 20 years. He was a member of the coaching staffs at Fairleigh Dickinson University, SUNY-Albany, Mercyhurst College, and Rutgers University as well as Morningside College during that time Henderson was a founding member of Freedom Fest, a Christian music festival, serving on its board for its entire 10-year existence. Currently a member of the Child Evangelism Fellowship Spectacular Board, he has served for over 40 years in a variety of church leadership positions. Henderson has been married to his wife, Jane for 45 years. They have three adult sons, all graduates of the Sioux City Public Schools, and two grandchildren. With a strong background in education and coaching, Henderson will bring a valuable perspective to the Legislature regarding the challenges facing Iowa's schools. But his diverse experience in other endeavors positions him as a qualified voice in many areas. Currently, Henderson is an adjunct professor of mathematics at Western Iowa Tech and Northeast Community College.
