Bio

Dr. Megan Srinivas, a Fort Dodge native and local doctor announced today that she will seek the Democratic nomination for State Representative in House District 9. This district is currently represented by Representative Helen Miller. Miller recently announced that she would not seek another term. ​ Megan was raised in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. Megan went on to receive undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University and her medical degree with a certificate in teaching from the University of Iowa's Carver College of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is pursuing an infectious disease fellowship with her research focusing on access to care in Iowa under the privatization of Medicaid. Her roots in Fort Dodge drove her to dedicate her life to improving health care in her community. ​ Megan has always prioritized making Fort Dodge a better place to live. Megan was appointed by Governor Vilsack to serve as the first student representative on the Iowa State Board of Education. She also started and led Presents of Hope for 10 years, a community effort focused on providing essential items as well as holiday presents to children and women in Fort Dodge's YWCA homeless shelter and the domestic abuse shelter.
