| My name is Dennis Guth and I was elected to the Senate in 2012 to represent District 4 which includes Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Hancock and Wright counties. I farm just north of Klemme, my home since I was born. I graduated from Klemme Community Schools and went on to attend Iowa State University where I graduated with a degree in Agricultural Mechanization.
I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Margaret, for 40 years. We are blessed with four biological children and adopted our fifth child from Brazil. Three are married and we have a total of 10 grandchildren. Our greatest joy is seeing our children love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ with their own family.
I have served in leadership on many boards including Church boards, Klemme Area Development Organization, Hancock County Pork Producers, the Hancock County Farm Bureau and the FAMiLY LEADER/Iowa Family Policy Center. I have served on the Elder board of the Britt Evangelical Free Church and stay connected with Iowa grassroots organizations such as LUV. I first became involved in politics in 1994 when I was asked to be precinct chair of the Ell Township Republicans. I maintained that chairmanship for 12 years. I have consistently been a county delegate, frequently serving as regional and state delegate.
My concern for the godless direction of our government has grown over the years. In April 2009, when the Iowa Supreme Court issued an opinion that same sex couples could not be denied the "right" to obtain a marriage license, I was reminded of a quote from English philosopher Sir Edmund Burke. He said "All that is required for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I knew I could no longer do "nothing".
I got involved in the Let Us Vote (LUV) campaign and found that many people shared my frustration with a runaway government. We lobbied our legislators and campaigned for the removal of the three Supreme Court justices that were up for retention in 2010. We supported conservative candidates who believe in the principals of self-government and an unchanging standard. In the 2010 elections we had much success, but then we saw many of our objectives blocked by powerful men in the legislature. The people of Iowa were routinely being denied the opportunity to be heard on things like the definition of marriage, the right to life for a child from the moment of conception, or the foolishness of incurring debt which is being passed on to our children. |
