Bio

State Representative Mike Speedy resides in Indianapolis and serves as representative for District 90. Born on the Southside, Rep. Speedy has had a longtime aspiration to represent and protect the taxpayers and to be a leader in his community. He earned his B.S. in Finance from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business and his law degree from I.U.'s School of Law at Indianapolis. Rep. Speedy maintains his law license and recently earned his Certified Commercial Investment Member designation. A second generation real estate developer, Rep. Speedy also runs and operates a small business in Indianapolis. Elected as state representative in November of 2010, Rep. Speedy recently finished his first legislative session. He serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Roads and Transportation Committee alongside being a member of the Employment, Labor, and Pension Committee and the Financial Institutions Committee. Among passing a biennial state budget, providing legislation that will further K-12 education and helping grow a healthy economic climate, Rep. Speedy authored House Bill 1539 to help fund public libraries in Marion County and ensure Marion County libraries continue to thrive. Through this bill, the city-county council may elect to provide revenues to a public library located in Marion County from the county option income tax (COIT) revenue. Rep. Speedy, as the House sponsor of Senate Bill 292, also championed legislation to further protects Hoosiers' second amendment rights by limiting local government regulation of firearms. Prior to serving in the House of Representatives, Rep. Speedy served southeast Marion County on the 29-member Indianapolis City County Council for nearly seven years. In this capacity, he concluded his council services as Chairman of Public Works Committee. Additionally, he spends much of his spare time attending community meetings and events, and has volunteered as a mentor for the Indianapolis Big Brother Big Sister chapter. He attends Living Word Bible Church.
