Kevin Boehnlein (pronounced Baneline) and his family have deep roots in District 47. He has lived his entire adult life in Floyd County (New Albany, Georgetown, and Greenville), and has family and client ties in Washington and Harrison Counties. Boehnlein graduated from Indiana University Southeast with a degree in Political Science, and later earned his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Southern Indiana. Upon graduation, Kevin worked as a district manager for Junior Achievement, where he recruited volunteers and raised funds in Harrison and Floyd Counties, among others, before moving on to run New Albany Mayor Regina Overton's campaign for Mayor. Under Boehnlein's management, Overton defeated an eight-year Democrat incumbent (54-46). Boehnlein served as Chief of Staff, president of the Board of Public Works & Safety, and Mayoral appointee to the River Hills Economic Development Council, which represents Harrison, Washington and Floyd Counties. During his tenure with the City of New Albany, Kevin helped lead several projects including the city's renovation of the sewers, the vision and implementation of the YMCA/Scribner Place project, and the building of the fire headquarters in downtown New Albany. These projects would serve as the catalysts for economic growth over the following two decades in Floyd County. Upon the conclusion of his service to the City, Kevin went on to manage Mike Sodrel's campaign for congress. In 2004, Congressman Sodrel won the seat (working closely with party leaders in Harrison, Washington and Floyd Counties) that had previously been held by the Democrat party for more than four decades. The race, under Kevin's direction, received support from the White House, National Republican Campaign Committee, and other national conservative groups. It attracted more than $1 million in donations, a Ninth District record at the time. Kevin took his experiences in local and national service and transitioned into the private sector as a financial advisor for Fortune 500 Company Edward Jones, where he still works with teachers, public employees, and individual investors throughout Senate District 47 to help them reach their lifetime goals. He has served on his region's leadership team, leading financial advisors in Corydon, Georgetown, New Albany and Floyds Knobs. For five years he served the firm's individual investors as the Indiana Chair of the Grassroots Task Force, where he lobbied Congress on behalf of the firm's Indiana clients. He became a partner in the firm in 2015. In addition to his professional career, Kevin has served and belongs to several organizations, including- River Hills Economic Development District (representing Harrison, Washington & Floyd) Vice Chair of One Southern Indiana (local Chamber of Commerce) Vice Chair of the Indiana Teachers Retirement Fund (Governor Mitch Daniels appointment) Vice Chair if the Indiana Public Employees Retirement Fund President of the Indiana University Southeast Alumni Board of Directors Leadership Southern Indiana Board of Directors Rotary Club Dayspring Emmaus Community New Albany Elks Club (Chaplain) Senator Todd Young's Service Academy Selection Committee National Rifle Association Indiana Farm Bureau Indiana Sheriff's Association Kevin has been recognized by several groups, including a two-time recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from IU Southeast, Top 40 Under 40 by Louisville Business First, Finalist for the Lanesville native's "Jim Robinson Young Professional of the Year" and Indiana University's President's Award. Among his political involvement, Kevin has served as a delegate to the Republican state convention, platform committee member, precinct committee member, and executive committee member for the 9th District Young Republicans. He has been instrumental in several successful, high profile political campaigns, including- Congressman Mike Sodrel, Senator Ron Grooms, Prosecutor Keith Henderson, Sheriff Randy Hubbard, and New Albany Mayor Regina Overton. He was appointed to serve the remainder of a vacancy for the Georgetown Township Board. Kevin is married to Kristen, a New Albany High School graduate and the 2017 New Albany-Floyd County Teacher of the Year. His daughter Ellie is an Elementary Education Major at Indiana University Southeast, and Lauren is in her junior year at Floyd Central High School.
