Brett Guthrie proudly serves the 2nd District of Kentucky. He fights in Congress for better jobs and a brighter future. Brett is 100% pro-life and is endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee; has an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association; has been named a "Friend of Farm Bureau;" and was called a "Taxpayer Hero" by the Council of Citizens Against Government Waste.
Brett's background is in manufacturing. He worked as Vice-President of Trace Die Cast, a company in Bowling Green that employs hundreds of people in the automotive supply business. Brett's outlook is shaped by his experience in the real world - he knows what government can do to help small businesses, and what it often does to hurt them.
Brett is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point ('87) and veteran of the U.S. Army. Brett served as an Artillery Officer in the 101st Airborne Division - Air Assault at Fort Campbell. Brett was honorably discharged from the military after the end of the Cold War and then earned a Master's Degree from Yale in Public and Private Management.
In Washington, Brett serves on the Education and Workforce Committee and the Energy and Commerce Committee. Utilizing his manufacturing experience, Brett serves as Chairman Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee, fighting to reform government programs that help workers develop new skills. Brett serves as Vice-Chair of the Health Subcommittee fighting for lower costs and keeping the government out of the doctor-patient relationship. In his role on the communications and consumer protection subcommittees he is leading the charge for better and faster internet service in rural areas and protecting consumer privacy online.
Brett Guthrie is known for passing bills and forging consensus. Working across the aisle in Congress and with presidents of both parties, Brett has passed legislation into law dealing with ending the terror of child trafficking, protecting the newborn hearing screening program, rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in the health care industry, ensuring teachers get the best training they can before entering the workforce, saving Fort Knox's energy security program, supporting manufacturers of energy efficient products from Washington bureaucrats, and clearing the way for better and faster wireless technology for consumers and hi-tech industries.
Brett is married to the former Beth Clemmons. They have three children-Caroline (married to Ryan Randolph), Robbie, and Elizabeth. The Guthrie Family resides in Bowling Green, Kentucky. |
