J. Cameron Henry, Jr. the 11th President to preside over the Louisiana Senate, is a Republican from Metairie serving his second term. Senator Henry was unanimously elected as President for the 2024-28 term and is known for having a strong knowledge of the legislature and its processes as a result of being elected and serving in both chambers. Senator Henry represents Senate District 9 which covers the Old Metairie, Old Jefferson and Airline park areas, as well as parts of uptown New Orleans. As Senate President, Henry presides over the 39-member body and directs policy for members and employees. He is fifth in the line of succession to be governor behind the lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and state treasurer. Until his election as President, Henry served on the committees of Commerce, Consumer Protection and International Affairs (vice chair), Finance, Judiciary B, Local and Municipal Affairs and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. As President, he can serve on any committee if needed to make a quorum, and will serve on the powerful Revenue Estimating Conference, which decides how much state and federal revenue can be used to build a state budget, State Bond Commission, Interim Emergency Board, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, Joint Capital Outlay, and Legislative Budgetary Control Council. Henry, having previously served 12 years in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 82, was re-elected to his second and third terms without opposition. While in the House, he served on the following committees- Appropriations (chair), Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, Legislative Budgetary Control Council and the State Bond Commission. Henry is a 1992 graduate of Jesuit High School and in August 1997, he graduated from LSU with a degree in Political Science. He received his MBA from Tulane in Finance and Management in May of 2004. While working on his MBA, Henry served as the legislative aide to former state Rep. Steve Scalise, now a high-ranking member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In July 2006, he completed the Executives in State and Local Government program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In 2014, the Washington Post named him in the "Top 40 under 40" in the country. In December of 2016, the Times-Picayune labeled him "the third most influential elected official in Louisiana." Henry is married to Jamie Domilise Henry and they have four children.
