Bio

J. Cameron Henry, Jr. is serving his first year as State Senator of District 9. He currently serves on the Committees of Commerce, Consumer Protection and International Affairs, Vice Chairman of Commerce, Judiciary B Local and Municipal Affairs and Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. He previously served 12 years in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 82., where he was re-elected to his second and third terms without opposition. His Senate district covers the Old Metairie, Old Jefferson and Airline park areas. While in the House he served on the following Committees- Chairman of Appropriations Committee, Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, Legislative Budgetary Control Council and the State Bond Commission. While serving on the Appropriations Committee, he took a stand against both the Jindal and Edwards administrations. In 2012, as vice-chairman of the committee under Governor Jindal, Cameron stood up to the administrations use of one-time funds to balance the state budget and was removed from the committee. As chairman, Cameron worked to pass a fiscally responsible budget that avoided mid-year cuts. Cameron graduated from Jesuit High School in 1992. In August of 1997 he graduated from LSU with a degree in Political Science and received his MBA from Tulane in Finance and Management in May of 2004. While working on his MBA, he served as the legislative aide to Steve Scalise. In July of 2006 he completed the Executives in State and Local Government at the John Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In 2014 he was selected by the Washington Post as the Top 40 under 40 in the country. In December of 2016 he was selected by the Times Picayune as the third most influential elected official in Louisiana. He is married to Jamie Domilise Henry and they have 4 children.
