Bio

Jay Morris was elected to the Louisiana State Senate in 2019 to represent the citizens of Senate District 35. He comes to the Senate from the House of Representatives where he served from 2012 - 2019. In the Senate, he currently serves on the Committees on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development, Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International Affairs, and Labor & Industrial Relations. He also serves as an interim member of the Committee on Revenue & Fiscal Affairs. Senator Morris graduated from LSU with a Bachelor of Arts in History and holds a Juris Doctorate from the LSU Law Center. While in school, he interned with the Louisiana Municipal Association and United States Senator J. Bennett Johnston. After graduation, he served as a law clerk in Alexandria before moving to Monroe, where he would soon become a partner in the firm of Thompson, Sparks, Dean and Morris. Today, Senator Morris is the owner of Dean Morris, LLC. His company focuses on mortgage servicing, banking and real estate law. He is also the owner and manager of Morris Realty, Inc and Louisiana Land & Farm, LLC. They are both real estate firms that handle investments in agricultural land, as well as commercial and residential real estate. Through these businesses, Senator Morris employs over 200people in Northeast Louisiana. Senator Morris is actively involved in his community. He coached basketball at Grace Episcopal School in Monroe and has also served on the school's Board of Trustees for several years, having held the positions of President and Treasurer. His businesses are heavily involved with the United Way and the Monroe and West Monroe Chambers of Commerce. Currently, Senator Morris resides in Monroe, LA with his wife, Emily Morris, who is also a practicing attorney. The have three grown children, John, Ashley, and Carrie, and three grandchildren.
