Bio

Matthew Bierlein was born and raised in Vassar, Michigan. Staying true to his roots and loving the small-town feeling that Vassar offers, he currently resides in Vassar Township with his wife Mindy and their three children, Matthew James (5), Madison (3), and Maddox (1). The Bierleins also have a dog Stryker, and keep chickens and occasionally pigs. They moved from the City of Vassar to their current home in 2016 so they could keep animals and a garden as a way to teach their children the responsibility that comes from having a small farm. Matthew is a graduate of Vassar High School, Delta College, and in 2013 Spring Arbor University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Organizational management. As a member of the Tuscola County Board of Commissioners where Matthew is the Vice-Chair, he is co-Chair of the finance committee. Bierlein also sits on the board of directors/executive committees for Great Start Collaborative, Human Development Commission. Human Services Coordinating Council, Local Emergency Planning Committee/All Hazards, Recycling Advisory Committee, and GSTMiworks. He is also a serving as President of the Michigan Association of Counties and the board of directors of the National Association of County officers. In addition to those leadership roles, Bierlein helps develop policy positions for both associations by serving on the Judiciary and Public Safety steering committee and Agriculture and Tourism steering committee for MAC and the Agriculture and Rural Development steering committee for NACo . The Bierleins are members of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church where Matthew serves on the Commission for Christian Education and Mindy sings and teaches dance with the Girls of Grace ministry. Matthew is a lifetime member of the NRA, and continues to both support and enjoy hunting and fishing throughout the beautiful state of Michigan. During the 2017 firearm season, Matthew took Matthew James into the woods for the first time. While they were not successful that day, it was the start of passing down the tradition that so many Michigan families hold dear.
