Bio

Lifelong Apple Valley resident State Representative from 2017-2019 Proven leader with extensive experience in the private, non-profit, and public sectors I am a lifelong resident of Apple Valley who is committed to advancing proactive policies driven by the needs of people, not partisanship. I believe in evidence based-solutions and in our collective ability to come together and solve problems. During my time as a Minnesota State Representative, I took on lots of tough fights, even when others told me to stand back or sit down. When I was elected in 2016, I was the only Democrat to flip a State House seat from red to blue. In office, I advocated for the critical policies our community needs, from paid family leave, to expanding access to affordable child care, ending childhood hunger, eliminating gun violence, fully funding public schools, and serving our veterans. I am proud to say that I successfully passed bills through a Republican controlled House. I intend to continue to be a champion for our community and all Minnesotans in the State Senate. My wife, Alyse, and I live in Apple Valley with our newborn daughter, Hattie, and our rescue two dogs, Jeffers and Sota. We're so excited to expand our family in the community I grew up in. We love living in Apple Valley because of the wonderful schools in ISD196, the great parks and green space we have, and the community feel we have with our neighbors and friends here. Currently, I serve as the Advocacy Director at Gender Justice, where I work to advance gender justice through public education, strategic partnerships and coalition-building.
